Immigration
is a major decision in one’s life. The tedious preparations before moving, such as various arrangements, document processing, and tidying up, are enough to exhaust one. Coupled with the sadness of saying goodbye to relatives and friends, it must be draining physically and mentally. After settling in a foreign country, one has to adapt to a new life immediately. Food, clothing, housing, transportation, friendship with relatives and friends, entertainment, work, and living habits have have significantly changed. It is human nature that it is difficult to adapt for a while.
Everyone's adaptability is different,
and new immigrants always have adaptation problems. You should pay more attention to your mental state and whether your mood continues to be low. If your attitude shows signs of depression due to moving overseas, don’t belittle yourself. It’s unnecessary to inferior yourself as low adaptability when you find difficulties adapting to live elsewhere.
All new immigrants
have anxiety and unaccustomed issues. It is inevitable and expected. It is essential to identify your mental health. If it is emotional, talk to relatives and friends. Please don’t be ashamed to talk about it. The first step in dealing with emotional problems is to admit your out-of-control negative emotions and seek help from relatives and friends or even professional treatment to stay away from the abyss of depression. Let go of the outdated and conservative thinking of sharing good news only. Rationally facing and solving problems is the basis for maintaining mental health.
Try to find ways
to solve some problems you cannot get used to now. When I first settled in Australia 20 years ago, the habit of having a cup of Hong Kong-style milk tea in the morning drove me crazy. To solve this problem, I bought many ready-to-drink milk tea powders. Changing habits is more manageable than imagined. After a month or two, I switched to drinking coffee. I purchased a semi-professional coffee machine and made a yummy coffee with my breakfast each morning. Now, I occasionally drink milk tea, and my habit has changed without realizing it.
